The Office of the Director of IT provides the benefits of centralised strategic development within a decentralised structure:
  • We drive the strategic direction of IT in line with the needs of the collegiate University
  • We set IT policy to ensure that services meet the needs of the University's staff and students
  • We seek to maximise value for money and energy efficiency within IT investments

An Ambassador for IT

Professor Paul Jeffreys was appointed the first Director of IT in 2007, he:
  • Serves as the University's Ambassador for IT
  • Connects the University with global IT corporations and other higher education institutions
  • Provides a point of contact for all members of the collegiate University

Advancing IT for the University

The Director of IT is also the Chief Executive Officer of the PRAC ICT sub-committee. This post enables the Director of IT to escalate crucial projects to the University governance agenda and to secure funding. The Director of IT ensures that the University's IT services continue to evolve: he drives the progression of IT whilst securing the fundamental principles of cohesion, security and policy.

IT Funding

The Director of IT facilitates the funding process for ICT projects which improve IT systems and support throughout the University:
  • ICT project development costs are funded by the 'ICT Project Development Envelope'
  • Any member of the University may bid for funding from the Envelope

The Office of the Director of IT initiates and supports projects which:
  • Offer services to the whole of the collegiate University and secure the future of the excellent IT services
  • And pave the way for innovative IT tools which support the excellent teaching and research
